THE BRIDE'S BOX HISTORY: Wooden Oval Bride's boxes were popular in Germany and America from 1750 to 1850. They were made of wood and then decorated by the "schachtelmaler" or box painter. The boxes were given as a wedding gift or a love gift from the groom. Smaller items in the bride's trouseau such as linens, lace and ribbons were stored in these boxes.
